The time has come for me this year to apply for a primary school place for my son,
I was dreading this moment, as it's seams like a very stressful process and heard a lot of off-putting stories from parents in Haringey.
I live really close to North Harringay Primary and am thinking of putting it down as my first choice,
Are there any parents with children in NH that can share their feelings/ opinions about this school?
I heard many negative opinions but all of them were from parents with children in different schools, so I am guessing they don't really know what they talking about,
thanks:)

Great school. Hope you get in - 180 applications for 60 places this year.
It might be worth reading some of the recent posts on here regarding school admissions. (Note from site admin: Tag added beneath original post to make that easier.)
Parents on here seem happy with all of the local primary schools. This issue is that there was a shortage of places in the neighbourhood last year and the catchment areas for each school were tiny- leaving some on the Ladder without a place at all.
So just be aware that you probably don't have much of a choice over primary schools as you will unlikely to be in the catchment area for more than one school. (unless you are religious and are trying for a faith school).
Thanks, I will definitely go through the posts,
And yes, that is exactly our problem, we are not religious and I wouldn't feel comfortable to pretend I am to get into a school,
Looking on last years catchment areas there is not much choice, although it seems as we would be fine for the North Harringay
I've heard lots of good things about North Harringay school recently and I know a few parents who send their children there and are very happy with it. The application leaflet should give you the catchment distances from last year, so if you are within these you should be ok - although there are no official catchment areas because they change each year mainly due to sibling numbers. I would say if you're within 0.2 miles as the crow flies then you should be ok.
I would put down some other choices, preferably other schools very local to you. The problems occur if all the schools both closest to you and on your preference list are over subscribed and you're not within the very small catchment areas then you are given the next closest school that isn't oversubscribed - which could be quiet a long way away from your home. So if you think you might be outside the catchment of NHS and are able to I would have a look as some nearish schools that aren't as popular and not oversubscribed and add them to the end of your preference list - I reckon this is the only way to have a bit of control over where your child goes to school.
Thank you, and yes, I will definitely put down more choices and look around for less popular schools although they all seem to be quite popular around here:)
North Harringay is 0.13 miles from us according to DirectGov website, so I am hoping that this is enough to get in, but I just wonder if this is actually a good school?
My two children go to Chestnuts so I don't have first hand experience of NHS. My children went to Woodlands nursery and some of their friends have gone to NHS and they really like it, the children are happy and they're doing well.
I think the best way to judge a school is go and visit it, you can quite quickly get an impression of what the school is like, if the children seem happy, what the staff are like etc. I would say go and visit a few so you can compare them.
And I'm pretty sure there are some NHS parents on here that can give you first hand accounts.
I am a governor at NHP. My kids are in Year 3 and Year 5 and really happy there. There is lots of attention to the needs and progress of individual children, the staff are great and really dedicated, and the results are improving every year.
And there are loads of efforts and initiatives to make life interesting for the children. An example – this week was one of the periodic ‘creative writing days’. Mysterious happenings through the morning, and eventually it seemed as if a UFO might have crashed into a storage cupboard. Everyone wrote about it... Another example – Year 4 had a daily ‘race’ to do times tables tests which the kids seem to get really in to. A further random sample – cycling days, a roof garden, each class does termly plays in assembly, the choir have sung each year in a massive concert at the O2, loads of school trips, the reception classes keep chickens...
I would also agree strongly with what others have said on this thread - I have friends with kids at all 3 local schools and I think they are all good.
I have one child currently at NHP and one who has just left to start secondary school. Both have done well academically and have also greatly enjoyed, and benefitted from the activities which Anna has described.
It's also a great site - lots of trees & shrubs, vegetable/herb/flower gardens.
There is also a Parent & Toddler group, a Playgroup and an After School/Holiday Club.
