Does anyone know who/which business insists on cutting metal poles or something similar in the back sheds half way down Umfreville Road, I think they are a scaffolding company and have been here a number of years. They are situated on the left hand side coming up from Green Lanes. I have noticed the industrial style metal grinding before when I have taken a day off,and sometimes on Saturday mornings. Anyone who lives in this lower part of the road and is at home during the day must be driven to distraction with it. It has to be a noise nuisance, is it possible that the sheds are registered as light industrial? Surely that would be wrong in this heavy residential area. The company should be asked to sound-proof their unit. I can't get the council to answer the phone after trying for most of the morning, they have a loop switched on - 'all are operators are busy, try again later'. Any suggestions or ideas which direction I might take to get an answer on any of this would be well appreciated.

Maria, this is so frustrating! Let me have some more details either here or at karen.haringey.haringeylibdems@gmail.com and I will happily take it up with the council.
If I could please add to Karen's helpful invitation, can I suggest there may be several interlinked problems here.
Noise nuisance, plainly. But also possible planning issues. Plus the problem you've had simply getting through to somebody in the Council.
The Council's website page on noise nuisance gives the contact details. So I wonder, Maria, did you try these or simply go through the "your-call-is-important-to-us-so-why-are-you-waiting-so-long" Haringey Call Centre?
There's a linked issue which I call the hard door/soft door problem. So while it's great to find a ward councillor who will try to help push the wheels round, what we often need is machinery in proper working order.
(Tottenham Hale ward councillor)
you can see the place from railway fields.
I think you have to go through the noise pollution people like we all have to- you may not get through irst time, but i the noise is bothering you enough it is worth perservering- i have used them with teh loud church that moved in opposite me, but you have to keep trying
Maria, I have send you a message privately regarding this issue via HoL
Regards
Karen
