Harringay, Haringey - So Good they Spelt it Twice!

Hi there, just keeping this one going. There are a couple of weeks left to make objections to the proposals to stop traffic turning right out of hewit road.

As discussed on a couple of previous threads, this could significantly increase traffic heading down Pemberton Road, right next to an Infant school, a junior school and the children's centre.

If you think it's unreasonable to create a situation that directly increases risk to children travelling to these venues then do take a couple of minutes to object. Instructions below...

Send an email to

frontline.consultation@haringey.gov.uk (with 'no right turn' in the title line) outlining your objection.

Whilst it's fine to explore options to redistribute traffic around the ladder...ideas like this which will only result in displacing traffic towards areas of high family footfall is not a sensible one in my opinion.

Cheers
Paul

The gardens were gated by Brian Haley as a favour to his friend Charles Adje who lives on Warwick Gardens. You don't get what you want playing fair Ant.

I really agree with you about double standards - sorting out one of the ladder road traffic problems will push the problem onto other roads in this case Pemberton Road as it offers the next best route through to St Anne's Road. It will cause equally bad congestion at the traffic lights at the end of Warham Road.

I live in Pemberton Road.

I am very concerned to read that the no right turn at the end of Hewit is a permanent change - that has not been made clear on the Council letter giving notice of the change.

Hewit Road are well organised and have people who are doing the organising - but we need to be campaigning on the whole area and problems with traffic. The whole area is meant to restrict big lorries - but it doesnt and it is not enforced.

You should start campaigning to get the Pemberton direction changed.

Pemberton is already comparatively busy and once it starts getting some of the Hewit traffic it will be really busy, and that busyness will be obvious. Changing its direction would then move much of that traffic to Ducket, but that might be ok because Ducket is comparatively quiet presently, not great for Ducket residents but it doesn't have schools or children's centre so it would be hard to argue against it. Pemberton would then become pretty quiet compared to other Ladder roads, which seems appropriate.

So talk to the councillors and they might make it part of the "agreed a way forward".

Ant - re. your conversation with Tony Kennedy. .

Is he really saying that it is council policy to move congestion away from green lanes towards areas with schools and children's centres?

If so do you have that in writing?

Cheers

I was intentionally portrying his comments in a bad way. What he said was:

It is inevitably that displacement will occur on neighbouring west-east roads. The preferred route for motorists will be identified through the monitoring process.

This proposal forms part of the public realm improvements currently being delivered along Green Lanes. The initiative is designed to reduce congestion experienced at the St Ann’s junction as improvements to this junction is an integral part of the scheme.

I guess he's just doing what he has been told he must, and i expect he knows its a bit crap for Pemberton and Beresford roads.

But otherwise yes, it really does seem to be council policy to move congestion away from green lanes towards areas with schools and children's centres?
