Harringay, Haringey - So Good they Spelt it Twice!

The Council has proposed implementing new street cleaning arrangements in Harringay. Attached are details for each road.

The spreadsheet (attached in both xls + pdf formats) shows when a "litter pick" would be done on your street and when it would be swept. The new sweeping arrangements would apparently mean that a team of 4 sweep together rather than one person on their own.

Each activity on your street is shown on a separate line. TTS = Team sweep, LP = litter pick, SATLP = Saturday Litter pick.

Sorry Chico. this list is just Harringay, not the whole borough.
Harringay, most of St Ann's and part of West Green actually. It's supposed to be a trial but it'll probably be progressively rolled out acrosss the whole borough. One advantage is that the smaller dumped items get picked up on the day and no green bags are left out over night. A disadvantage is that there is no individual responsibility on the sweeper. It's been going on for the last 2 months. How are people finding it? Are the streets lookong better?
Harringay actually - which includes the government defined subdivisions of Harringay ward, about 25% of St Ann's ward and a little part of Seven Sister's ward.

It's no longer a trial; the trial is over. This is the new schedule.
The results of the trial period haven't been to Haley yet so although it probably will be approved it's still in the trial stage.
Who told you the trial was over Hugh?
The officer. I'm sure she was just saying what she was told. Thanks for the additional info.
Frank, you were right. The officer has now told me that "the council are still finalising agreement and will then be announcing this ourselves".

That's frustrating because I did go back and fact check and it was confirmed to me as the new schedule - "I can confirm the pilot is now permanent "
Hugh, as ever, my thanks for letting us know about these new initiatives - especially if officers have told you they're likely to be rolled-out across other parts of Haringey. I'm sure it's entirely my own failure, but as a councillor I can't recall seeing this news. Have you perchance, a handy link to the information which I missed? (I don't mean the lists of streets; but the rationale.)

One thing I'm very pleased about - which Liz and I have touched-on in our Flickr and HoL comments. Not leaving green bags overnight is a very positive change. Because they almost certainly operate as a 'green light' to encourage, legitimate and actually model street dumping by a minority of residents. Green bags on the street are seen as an open invitation for people to add a rubbish bag or two; or a TV; or something larger. I guess people assume that since somebody is soon coming to take the green bags away, why not take advantage of a free pick-up? (Many people take the same view about litter bins.)

I've photographed a number of examples and posted them on Flickr in the set: 'I' is for Imitation.

It also seems that leaving out green bags legitimates what I call 'The Third System". In other words, as well as a waste collection from people's homes; and a number of bring sites to which residents can take their waste; Haringey operates an informal collection for items dumped on the streets, down alleys, or on green areas etc.

I and many other people have raised these and similar ideas with the Urban Environment Department. Always with suggestions for improvements, of course. So maybe they and Cllr Haley were listening after all.
Alan, have forwarded you the mail from the officer.
Sorry Hugh, which officer from which dept.was that?
