Harringay, Haringey - So Good they Spelt it Twice!

The New River

I was looking just now at this photo which has been added to Harringay Online's Flickr group. It shows how attractive the section of the river is that runs through Finsbury Park. The text beneath the photo on the Flickr page includes the following:

The section that runs through Finsbury Park doesn't have a walkable towpath, but many other sections do.

Yes, of course I'd known that already. Yet in the context of other discussions on the site (see links below) which have included explanations about why there's no path running along the river through the southern half of the Ladder, I wondered why this section through the park is fenced off. Surely it can't be for safety's sake. That wouldn't make sense since the sections to the north and south are open.

Wouldn't it be wonderful to have it open.

I get the bureaucratic apathy bit, but not the safety logic since the river to the north and south has no barrier.
