Harringay, Haringey - So Good they Spelt it Twice!

There are two sections of the New River owned by Thames Water that could be improved significantly. I am considering applying for a ward grant.

The idea is to put a winding path down both stretches which will divide the land into a series of themed gardens. For example:

  • An orchard and herb garden
  • A Moorish Garden with palms, climbing roses, jasmine etc
  • An Afro-Caribbean Garden with palms, ferns, banana etc
  • A willow garden with small grafted weeping willows and other types of willow shrubs
  • and quite a few more options. There is lot of space for all sorts of diversity.
  • and plant the boundary with Hawthorne and May for a magpie free zone for small birds

Islington has quite an interesting New River Walk in Canonbury which gives some idea of what can be done.  http://londonist.com/2009/12/nature-ist_new_river_walk

What degree of interest is there in planning, designing this endeavour and help make it?

This land could be much better than its current utilitarian design.

CleanupUk's Beautiful Boroughs Project are currently working with Thames21 on a plan to bring together communities along the New River to clean things up. We are doing this with the support of Thames Water - it would be good to have a chat.

Hope you're all coming to the New River Day of Action on Saturday?
