Harringay, Haringey - So Good they Spelt it Twice!

We received not one but two flyers even though there is only one letterbox and one doorbell.  So much for Haringey common sense.  I am not particularly looking forward to having another wheelie bin in our tiny front garden but our two recycling boxes regularly overflow so I guess it is a good idea.  But the response to the question 'What will I do with my old recycling box?' really peeved me off as is basically says that this is the residents' problem.  Surely is wrong to expect residents to start their car/get on the bus to the recycling centres to get rid of it and I imagine front gardens and pavements are going to be littered with these for a long time to come.  Surely it would make more sense for Veolia to take them on their last collection unless you had put a note on it saying that you really really want an old knackered dirty green box with Haringey printed on the side?  Maybe we should all be booking the bulky wast collection?

I can use about four of those green bins as raised beds. The new bins wont roll out to this far-east part till September, so if you PM me |I will happily collect a few. Pam.

Will do :)

Good thinking Pamish - I've been trying to think of what I can use to plant the children's sunflowers in and my old recycling bin will be perfect.

Recycling bins make perfect planters; see http://foodfromthesky.org.uk/ . I bet they've a million upcycling uses too, I'd happily take one off your hands if it's spare =)

Ben

thx, really glad some people have a use for them.  I still think streets and frontgardens will be littered with them though

I did a little tour of The Ladder last night and couldn't see any. Are the new ones in use yet? Saw lots of green boxes still full of r/c.  If anyone has any to spare, please PM me and I will collect.

I hope when the time comes that LBH/Veolia will arrange to collect them and not crush them, as there will be another life for at least some of them - think of all those street and school gardening opportunities. Turn one set upside down to raise the height, for accessible raised beds. They could be kept stacked up at the two rubbish centres and other communal sites.
