Harringay, Haringey - So Good they Spelt it Twice!

I am happy to report that as of this this Monday a brand new Neapolitan & Italian restaurant has opened on Green Lanes - in front of Finsbury Park, just after Homebase, in the place where the (short lived) Vegetarian cafe/restaurant was a few months ago.

I've just tried it for lunch today with husband and toddler and it was very nice. The young owners are very friendly and keen on giving locals genuine Italian food.

I will write a longer review on the restaurant section soon but for the moment I just thought it would be nice to give some good news here - that there is now more variety than before on Green Lanes. We should probably make sure we support them - I think they have a chance of doing well as they offer something very different from anything else around here but of course locals need to go and eat there!

After Germana's review, we dropped by en famille today for Sunday lunch and really enjoyed it. It's called Oasis i Borboni. The guys who run it are really friendly and enthusiastic. The food is all freshly made each morning so there's a small  menu with a few daily specials which change from day to day. Great with kids - they even made sure their food didn't have too much salt etc. on it. Best of all was the coffee - the chef was telling us about how he'd won an award for his coffees and certainly the latte he made was top notch. As they're open from 7am every day (apparently til 11pm for the moment, at least until they work which hours are best), it's a great place to get your morning coffee on the way to Manor House and cheaper than Costa or the like. Only thing which might put some off (at least on a Sunday) is that they do have the Italian footie on the overhead screens and quite loud but it kept our lads quiet so didn't mind too much. There's no licence so it's BYO if you want.

Oh, and as for Anne's comment about the "cousine" (on their poster) - apparently they got all their menus, marketing materials etc. done back home in Naples. Hence the occasional spelling mistake like that!

We should definitely support them - they're as local as it gets, coming all the way from Endymion Road, and very receptive to feedback.

Once they get some nice pastries/cakes in (maybe from the Hornsey Road bakery?) and some fresh salamis/hams, they'll be all set in our view.

Yet another cafe in this spot which so far seems doomed to short runs only. Wish the new owners luck.

Whoof, you do have dem Monday blooz, Ruth.
nah, just realistic about the site which seems to be in a black hole for trade since the bus stop was moved. But hoping current owners can turn that around! Looking forward to going there today and indulging in something nice :))

But then the tapas bar up the road is not in a particularly auspicious spot and yet they have made it work. It would be great for the neighbourhood if they did takeaway - sometimes you get so sick of Turkish, no matter how good.

The menu looks really nice and if the coffee is good, at £1.30 it's a good alternative to Costa.

Very quick review + some pics here.
Nice review Hugh. Its a friendly place indeed and will venture to have some food there at some point. It would be good if this one works out and there is some stability in that spot! good luck to them.
by chance did you try the coffee?
(excited about alt. place to get a decent cup of coffee. anything trumps finsbury park cafe)
I did, but can I ask you to visit and come back and tell us what you think?
The coffee is excellent - though be warned that it's stronger than your standard Costa/Starbucks fare (but different league in terms of quality).
You're not wrong...I had one of their cappuccinos en route to the delights of Arena Retail Park, and let's just say I did the quickest circuit round Sainsbury's I've ever managed!

This is a terrific little restaurant. We've had dinner there twice and coffee on the go. The food is fresh, authentic and delicious, and the coffee is the best around. The guys running it are incredibly friendly and enthusiastic. It is well worth supporting.
