The fascinating history of Stroud Green is brought vividly to life by John Hinshelwood from a wide variety of sources and through the itineraries of five urban walks. He sheds new light on the people who lived in Stroud Green as it developed from a wet and marshy place in the sixteenth century to a north London suburb in the twentieth century. The walks take in the historic heart of Stroud Green as well as the diverse examples of domestic architecture to be found in the two conservation areas and effectively complement the historical account.
