Harringay, Haringey - So Good they Spelt it Twice!

http://www.harringayonline.com/profiles/blogs/theresa-says-communit... I have just read the thread about community spirit/asb/theresa may. The worst trouble I have with my neighbours is mainly to do with inappropriate planning permission and unsightly satellite dishes, so I count myself lucky. An associated topic (in my mind at least) arises from this http://www.communitynewswire.press.net/article.jsp?id=6966916 initiative encouraging people to talk to each other on public transport. I think the world would be a better place if more of us chatted more often to more people we chance to meet, and certainly if we speak to those who live nearby.
Havng said that i can recount two recent experiences of chatting to someone on a bus.
Occasion 1 was on a bus coming north on the Blackstock Road. I followed a group of primary school children upstairs and a young lady moved over to the window seat to make room for me to sit next to her. (I am a man of middle (possibly late middle) age, I shower and change my clothes every day, my flies are generally fastened and the vitiligo only looks really wierd if i get sunburnt or don't shave for a week.) I thanked her and made a comment about the chuildren. We chatted for about 5 minutes. She got off the bus (I think it actualy was her stop). Such an encounter is so rare I took a disproportionate pleasure in it.
Occasion 2 was on a 91 North from 7 Sisters. I spoke to a young man. I asked him to take his foot off my seat (we were facing each other in a group of seats on the top deck), to turn off his loud music with no earphones, and to stop drinking from the beer can he had concealed in a rolled up newspaper. The next 10 minutes were spent with him alternately a) threatening to kill me, and b) shaking my hand and telling me what a good chap I was. I haven't ever actually done violence to anyone, but for a great part of this time I was hoping his bluster would turn into action so that I could actually try it out.

Still on balance I thnk the chatting to people on public transport initiative is a good one.
