Harringay, Haringey - So Good they Spelt it Twice!

Mummy, can I do painting tomorrow? Only if the air pollution is low darling

We know charcoal smoke pollution is a problem in the evenings — but the dirty air doesn’t just disappear when the smoke does. When there’s no wind, it can linger.

As a mummy of two, it’s heart-breaking that this affects everyday moments. My little boy wanted to paint outside — something he loves — but instead of grabbing the paints, I checked the air monitor and had to say no.

These readings from 2-weeks in March show that air pollution can linger when our children should expect to be able to play safely while breathing in clean air. For reference, WHO safe daily levels PM2.5 are 15.

Enough is enough. Give children clean air to breathe, Haringey Council. And everyone.

Thank you so much for drawing attention to this. It is outrageous that the previous Labour council failed to act on this. Let's hope our new local representatives actually do something.

Why are the levels so much lower from Wed 25th on including the weekend?

Probably a change in wind direction. The monitor is on the Ladder side of Green Lanes houses. Unfortunately when the Ladder has low pollution levels, neighbours in the Gardens report higher levels. Last week being a perfect example - it was quite good here but the Gardens felt the impact

There's absolutely no way Haringey Council will do anything or take any action against the turkish restaurants. They hold too much power.

If any group holds too much power, then it is council "officers". Power for good or ill or for inertia.

We are led to understand that the council is now under new management. Dealing with air pollution and especially that produced by burning charcoal is something an environmental Party should act on ASAP.

The Greens need to start as they mean to go on, otherwise their employees ("officers") will again, run rings round Councillors.
