That's awful and I'm so sorry for her. I hope she and your son are ok soon. It must have been really upsetting. As a female I would never walk down the Passage at any time of night or day and I never have, despite living on the Ladder for several years. It's sad to say but I will always avoid any hidden/isolated area where your escape can easily be blocked. I'm not sure I'd even walk down there with company. We shouldn't have to think about taking precautions to avoid being attacked or robbed but it's something I, personally, am always aware of. We all need to be, sadly. Wishing your au pair and family all the best!
Ed thank goodness they're both OK. As you mention 'databases' I'll assume they've picked up on the fact there's a camera right there. Hope they're known. If they're not ask the police if they'll consider releasing close-ups via the local papers, or even on HOL, assuming the council CCTV operator can capture a good video picture. But you've probably had that conversation.
they are both ok, if a little bit shaken up. it also didn't stop our au pair from heading down to green lanes yesterday evening with her friend for some supper, which is a good thing.
to be fair i didn't post this to put people off using the passage, i posted it to warn people to be vigilant and to maybe get some extra witnesses by publicising the event, which seems to have happened having read sally's response.
i am actually a firm believer that the more people that use it (at whatever time, day or night) the safer it will become as there will be less opportunities for someone to think they'll get away with it.
presumably it's up to women to make their/our minds up on that one...
Oh my god I have gone cold! I was walking down the passage at that exact time yesterday and saw two lads (fitting your description) who I genuinely though were going to mug me by the way they approached me (hoods up, looking behind them to see who else was around). I was really worried. I walked really quick down the passage to make sure I got out onto the road before they reached me in the passage! Then I decided to walk up Warham road rather than use the passage as I felt so uneasy. I came home and said to my husband "I think I was about to get mugged just now". Please could you put me in touch with the Police if they want me to give a description. I got a good look at one of them in particular.
Sally,
The PC who was dealing with us was PC Landells (Tom) and the crime reference number is 2819560/13 - he's based at Hornsey Police Station (or you can ring 101 and quote the crime ref number and they should put you through)
