Latest stats from Metropolitian Police Crime Mapping rate the ward of Harringay as 'High' for 'burglary'. Up from 14 burglaries in March to 17 in April for our little ward.
When clicking on the link above, to find the burglary stats on the MPS site click on 'Crime Type' (top middle left) and in the pop-up box select 'Residential Burglary'. The map changes to 'red' for Harringay.
Stats are rated against the average across London. Rates of burglary are rated as 'average' in all other wards surrounding Harringay, in fact 'down' in Finsbury Park ward. So what's going on?
We've had bricks through windows in broad daylight. Windows with window locks crowbarred open and front doors kicked in.

Maybe the 'Harringay SNT' HOL member/organisation has some answers? New hostel opened in the area for early release prisoners and criminal suspects?
Aren't the ConLibs proposing to down rate burglary from a jail offence to Community Service?
I knew we'd had this discussion before on HoL. See Glyn's post in 2008 in response to an article in the Evening Standard.
I also checked the number of burglaries reported on here in Harringay Ward since the start of the year. It's five. See all posts on burglary via the tag (just under the picture in the original post)
Hugh, we all know you prefer to keep things positive on here but it matters not whether they are HMOs or family houses. The impact is the same on the people affected. Just because there are five mentioned on HOL does not mean anything, as other people won't want to report incidents openly or won't be HOL members. The MPS figures for April are most likely correct as I know the March figures are. It's a more serious issue than dog shit or litter right now in my opinion. The question is; Why is Harringay worse than everywhere else around here? I don't expect yourself to have the answer. Maybe the SNT have some ideas though ... to share when they're back on shift & next perusing this site.
And Hugh, it's not a 'headline', it's reported on the MPS website.
It's not about keeping things positive, Matt; it's about keeping them accurate. I'll say no more on that and let my posting record speak for itself.
The reason it makes a difference whether the property burgled is a multi-occupancy one is explained by Liz on a post linked to from Glyn's post that I linked to above:
if someone gets into a house with 5 bedsits that would be recorded as 5 burglaries not one
You'll also remember the way stats were used to overinflate crime figures on a crime map in a conversation earlier this year.
I fully appreciate that most crime in the area isn't reported on HoL. The reason I pointed up what's been reported here is because I was responding to Anette who wrote:
So I repeat, be very careful when using complex stats to draw conclusions.there has been an alarming number of posts here regarding burglaries lately
Hugh, the stats aren't complex at all. March 14 burglaries; April 17 burglaries. They have HMOs in Finsbury Park as well you know. I agree with you, lets stick to the facts I've just mentioned, given by the police themselves.
Back to the issue at hand; why is Harringay worse for burglaries? Still awaiting an answer, rather than a diversion.
Just so there 's no doubt here. I absolutely would like to hear from the police on their view as to why the stats are playing out as they are. It may well be that they simply say it's because we've had more burglaries. Fine. It's appropriate for the issue to be raised on HoL, but what I'm pointing out is, in the meantime, let's be cautious. I'm replaying what's been reported as being said on here before by the most informed local opinion on the issue, the LCSP and Safer Neighbourhoods Team. A bit of an oversight to ignore it I'd have thought.
