Harringay, Haringey - So Good they Spelt it Twice!

I got a letter from Haringey Planning Department today asking for comments on what appears to be an application for planning permission to remove the illegally built dormer and replace the roof as it was formerly. At least I think that's what it says, although it seems strange to have to get permission to demolish something you built originally without permission...

From what I can see it still leaves the loft room as a small inhabited space - this is definitely an HMO - but it's good to see that Haringey has the power to stop people ripping the roofs off houses just to squeeze in a few more tenants.

If anyone on HoL has more knowledge of the system, could you look up the application on the Planning Department website for me and tell me what you think - I have 21 days to reply?

I have knowledge of the system... it doesn't work. The person over the back from me is slowly and not so surreptitiously turning his two house HMO into a hotel. I complained to the planning department and supposedly they visited but... Mr Kev Vin of some social centre in Essex is still the landlord and he still has his scummy looking massive dormer and hasn't even bothered to remove the protective blue plastic from his nasty double glazing.

I complained about this roof extension too John and was told that they were aware of the problem and had asked the owner to apply for planning permission or to reduce its size.  Since then I have heard nothing from the planning department.  Either they are overwhelmed or not bothered with anything which cannot be seen from the street.

I spent years in my previous home also in N8 fighting an illegal extension next door which was huge, badly done etc.  In the end it was less stressful to move which is hugely unfair.  Oh I moved more than 2 years ago and that illegal extension still stands and the owner is now applying for permission to convert the house in to two flats and has included the illegal extension (the council served notice but has not enforced it) in the plans.
