Sadly (as I mentioned on another thread), a cat has already hooked the front panel off our bird box and destroyed a coal-tits nest. I've re-sited it now for next year spring, the box that is.

I see that you have attached a picture of a woodpecker who ironically raid nests and nestboxes and probably kill more blue tits and coal tits that any cat ever could. Blue tits make up for a high predation rate by laying lots of eggs.
Yes, some cats do kill birds and yes it's a concern but remember they also help to control the mouse and rat population. Rats also eat bird eggs and birds. I saw rats biting and jumping on birds by the pond in Finsbury Park. Scary sight. I guess it's all a matter of balance. If there were no cats then the rat population could explode. It' a difficult situation and I don't know the answer.
Rats eat birds eggs and baby birds.
Attaching a bell to your cat's collar can help.
I would say that humans are the biggest threat to wildlife and the environment.
