Harringay, Haringey - So Good they Spelt it Twice!

It's day 3 of no Patch, our white cat with black splodges. This is deeply uncharacteristic of him as he is very dependent on the affections of his brother. On rare occasions when his brother has gone out without him, he meows constantly until they are reunited. When he goes out, he never strays beyond the gardens over the back from us, and sits on the shed roof of the one behind us, and always meows and comes back when called. So I don't think it's overreacting to say he is now missing.

I suspect someone has him in their house, as on one very bad night last week (extreme wind and rain) they were both out all night, and when I got them back in, they were warm and bone dry.

I have attached a picture. Patch is mostly white, with black splodges, including one on his head. He doesn't have a collar on at the moment. He is likely to be very upset without his brother.

He belongs to my daughter and has only been with us a few months after our much loved cat was run over.

I strongly suspect he is somewhere on Hewitt Road, or Seymour.

Can you please keep an eye out for him, have a look in your gardens and outbuildings and if you have him, please do the decent thing and give him back. He is not a stray. He is a very well looked after and much loved cat - OUR cat.

We are very worried and the kids are desperate to have him home, so please please help us get Patch back where he belongs with his brother. And if you are tempted to feed cats that don't belong to you, please don't without first doing all you can to establish if they have a home, it causes great distress to everyone.

Thanks in advance. And if anyone has any information, please contact me on here.

Thanks Anette. Holly is not sure if she wants another one, she's going to have a think about it. Think it's so much upset with having lost Elvis so recently too. We had only had Patch a few months, I never knew a cat with softer fur. I hope Ziggy will improve with time, I feel so sad for him, they were brothers and had always been together, they used to sleep together. He has been in with us for the past 2 nights, very unsettled.

Oh Cara I'm so sorry about Patch. How horrible. I do think the foxes are getting bolder. I saw one on Seymour (top end) the other morning at 8 am and it didn't seem at all frightened of me.

I have a 10 month old cat that I was going to start letting out soon. Now I'm worried about doing that.

I know, I have a Beagle and we got back from the school run around 9.15 the other morning to find the fox in our front garden. We're on Seymour too - I've seen him at all hours of the day and night.

The kids used to like seeing the fox, but Holly says she hates them now :-(

I'm very reluctant to let Ziggy out now, although I have made sure he has a collar on, but I just can't go through all this again.

Hi Cara, I think Anette may be right, older cats with years of defending territory and themselves may well be better at fending foxes off. I used to have an old mog who was a bit of a street cat when I adopted him - I once saw him give a fox 3 times his size a tough time with no 2nd thought - in fact he attacked the fox who was nosing about. Younger cats who are recently finding their way out and about have a tougher time, less attitude and all that. Foxes are like playground bullies, run away and they'll chase, run at them and they'll scarper. If you get company for your other cat, I agree, it may be better to go for an older boy or girl who can show him a thing or 2 by way of example! So sorry about your Patch, please don't let it turn you into a helicopter cat parent though, I used to be that and it's exhausting!

Well we have a new furball in the family. I got in touch with London Cat Rescue who have a lot of older kittens and cats and after an initial meet with and look at the cats they had to try and find a match for Ziggy, we welcomed a sweet little girl of around 6 months last week.

I considered an older one, but this one seems a really similar temperament to Ziggy and her owner died at Christmas, poor thing.

So after an initial 2 or 3 days of ignoring each other, followed by a bit of fake nonchalance, they seem to be warming to each other and have started playing games of chased. And even though he ignored her for the first few days, as soon as she was in the house, Ziggy stopped his night time meowing.

Unfortunately she came with fleas - so I've treated both cats, the beagle and sprayed and hoovered like a mad thing, so nipped in the bud!

I'm not planning on any of them going outside anytime soon, Peaches (the new one) doesn't seem able to climb or jump as yet, but eventually I will as Ziggy craves the outside world.

Thanks all for your help.

Nice! Good luck with the new one. :)
