Harringay, Haringey - So Good they Spelt it Twice!

Microwave - anyone selling or looking to take one to fix or repair

Hi all,

My microwave just gave up the ghost at the worst time :D Loath to chuck it on landfill and have searched Harringayonline for menders etc but noone mending at the moment.  If anyone is a dab hand at fixing small appliances or wants parts they are welcome to it.  Its an LG model.

Im was hoping to do up my kitchen this year so if anyone has one to sell which could tide me over that would be much appreciated.  I'm at the southern end of the ladder with no car so anywhere walkable that I can pick up with a trolley bag would be great.

Sorry I don't have microwave to offer, but just checking you are absolutely sure it's dead.  A few years ago mine had some horrendous sparking, and I thought I would have to replace it, but googled for that issue, cleaned the relevant part, and it's still going strong, no problems.  So pleased not to have had to put it in landfill.  This probably isn't your issue, but just thought I would mention it.  It's amazing how much helpful stuff people have put up on the internet.

Good luck with finding new microwave.

It tripped the electric sockets and I checked the fuse - still working ok.  But you are right, I'll have a search on the web for more ideas.  Thanks!

I have the same problem. Oven sparking like it's out of Dr Frankenstein's lab. Please, what and where was the part you cleaned?

I had this issue with an old microwave, there's a little plate kinda like a piece of cardboard on the side that you can actually take out - I bought a new one of those and put it in, was very cheap from memory. Think they are called a waveguard cover

Sorry Strawcat, I can't exactly remember what I did, I think it was just cleaning the gunky waveguide cover, but hesitate to to be definite as a) it was a long time ago and b) I'm not an electrician and wouldn't like to lead anyone astray.  Do your own research is probably my best suggestion.  Good luck.

I bet you used Brillo pads
