Just had Siemens come to change my gas and electric meters over for new "Smart" technology (their idea, not mine - they are gradually changing all of them I think.) I was asked to wait in all day from 8 a.m. until 8 p.m., but they at least turned up mid-afternoon.
They came in a pair; the gas guy did his meter first while the other one waited outside. Then the electricity one was done, whereupon it turned out that they both rely on a Vodaphone Simcard, which did not work in my basement. So they had to rip them out again and replace them with newer versions of the conventional kind. Had the electricity one been done first, the problem would have come to light more quickly - it happens in roughly one in twenty-five households.
I'm disappointed not to have the Smart meter, as it shows you exactly what you're using. Incidentally, they issue the engineers with O2 phones, as they have decided these offer the most reliable coverage, which I would agree with.
Anyone else had experience of this "service"?
