Harringay, Haringey - So Good they Spelt it Twice!

I was very encouraged to see that Haringey Council have embarked on quite an ambitious meadow creation scheme in lots of our green spaces in the borough - really marvellous!

But was simultaneously so disappointed to see that the lawns in front of the blocks of flats on Sydney Road has been mowed back to within an inch of their lives again..,.

I walked past with one of my children just a few days before and we stopped to look and comment at the riot of daisies, dandelions, clover with a buzz of insects all over it. Now, just a pile of browning dead grass again. What an irony. There are already meadows popping up for free all over the place - that's what nature does!  All we have to do is not to mow it back all the time. The grass is growing very, very slowly in current conditions, it really didn't need mowing at all.

I just don't understand how to get it across to the powers that be that the insects feeding on the flowers (however common they may seem to the council) are in turn feeding the baby birds and so on and so on.

Sigh.

Stoke Newington Common is another. Stunning! At the moment.

Hey,

Thanks for taking time to post this. I 100% agree. I hope you've also taken time to send your eloquent words to Councillors direct via their emails.

Inspired by your post I will email my borough councillor and Mike Hakata now.

Thanks

Paul

Wonderful!

The wildflower verge on the hill near the top of Ally Pally (by the pitch and put) is looking amazing - the colours!!

Such a joy to see isn't it.
