Harringay, Haringey - So Good they Spelt it Twice!

Lothair Road: trees along the railway line

Various residents of Lothair Road have been telling me that trees growing on railway land along the line are not being pruned, and that as a result the small rear gardens there are being affected by dripping sap in the summer and are being covered with leaves throughout the late summer and autumn.

I have been in touch with an official at network rail, who is keen to help. Anyone who has a similar problem and who would like the trees behind them to be pruned is welcome to let me know, either via a posting or private message on this site or by email to david.schmitz@haringey.gov.uk or by phone to 07854 002742.

A few years ago I spoke to Network Rail (NR) about removing a very large branch from one of their trees that was overhanging our back yard in Lothair Road South.

We eventually managed to get a guy from NR to visit and inspect - he agreed that the branch was NR's concern and said he'd recommend that it was removed.

After a month of chasing this up I received a letter from NR that said because the branch was not causing structural problems or any danger - then it wasn't their problem.

I ended up pruning it myself.

I'd be interested to see if NR's position on situations like this has changed since then.

My impression is that there has been a strong change of attitude from the time, three years ago, when I was having difficulty even getting information about the weed killers that they were using, notwithstanding their statutory obligation to provide such information.

We'll see how things develop.

They need to deal with the knotweed. Its ridiculous that we have to call them first. They know it's there but do very little.

Thanks very much for telling me about the knotweed. I'd been aware of the problem at the Turnpike Lane end, but not by Lothair Road. I'll certainly chase that up.
