Harringay, Haringey - So Good they Spelt it Twice!

Haringey based charity, Kith & Kids have been running for over 43 years. Through working with countless local families who have children with learning disabilities or autism, they know first-hand that the holiday period can be particularly difficult. These families feel their social isolation even more keenly during the Christmas holidays when what should be an enjoyable time becomes increasingly stressful. To help meet these challenges, each year disability charity

Kith & Kids run a five day project at a day centre in Seven Sisters, giving children and young people with learning disabilities or autism the chance to develop independence and social skills through his or her relationship with the volunteers and the activities they share.

However this year, like many others in the charity sector, Kith & Kids have found it increasingly difficult when it comes to raising funds. Determined to make the project as successful as possible they have launched a Xmas Appeal to raise £5000 to help pay for:

  • Creative workshops such as art, music, drama, video and massage for five
  • days (£3500)
  • Day trips for 40 disabled young people (£1000)
  • Art materials for the whole week (£250)
  • Hire of a minibus so that those who are profoundly disabled can also travel
  • and enjoy their day trip out (£250)

Since starting the appeal 10 days ago they have already raised over £2000.

Maithi Rajeshkumar, Community and Events Fundraiser at Kith & Kids, says: “It’s really heartening to know what a difference an individual can make. Raising £2000 in ten days is wonderful but we still have a long way to go and need to get the message out to as many people as possible. By donating to a small charity like Kith & Kids, people can know that their money will have gone directly to those with learning disabilities or autism in their local community.”

The five day project (2:1 Social Development Project) runs from 27th- 31st December 2012. For more information on the charity’s activities and appeal call: 020 8885 1517 or visit: www.kithandkids.org.uk.

I volunteered with Kith and Kids when I was 16 and I remember the whole experience very fondly. Thank you for reminding me that now I live here it's a local charity. Just made a donation...may even give volunteering a go again soon.

Hi Francesca! Thank you so much for donating and we hope that we get to see you again at one of our projects!
