Hi Everyone,
I’m a musician beginning a small sound project. I am researching the old turnpike toll gate that used to be around Turnpike Lane and I’m trying to track down any traces or memories of it. I’m particularly interested in things like:
- Any physical remnants e.g., old posts, animal feeding points, boundary stones, unusual paths or older buildings that might have been toll-keeper cottages
- Local stories or photographs that show anything relating to the toll gate.
- Old signs, or plaques — anything that might have marked the toll boundary or fees.
- Sound files that anyone might know of relating to this - extreme long shot!
- Any ritual processes that happened around the toll gate
- Any maps that show the toll gate
If you’ve seen or heard anything like this I’d love to hear from you.
Thanks so much!
Alice
I can see that you've found this post of mine from a couple of years back. There are also a couple of images here.
If you look in Duckett's Common there is a plac commemorating a fight between Anglo Saxons and Scandinavians , I think in 7th century
