Harringay, Haringey - So Good they Spelt it Twice!

I went to a meeting of the PPG at bridge House GP service. I've nothing but praise for the two managers and have always been well looked after there. But it's clear there are serious problems due to colossal patient list and their inability to refuse new patients and their severe underfunding compared with practices in other parts of the borough. This leads to huge problems making appoinments. I'd like to know of so9me way of helping their team petition for smaller lists and better funding

I only have questions, not answers I'm afraid.

What is the PPG?

Why can't they refuse new patients (ie is it that they can't or won't)?

And what underpins the underfunding - is it something about the practice or about this area of Haringey?

I'm a patient there - very aware of the problems getting an appointment (though to be fair whenever I have really really needed one I've got one).

More questions from me I'm afraid - why is funding not the same borough-wide? Don't/shouldn't practices all receive the same funding, at least based on practical things like their size and number of patients?

apparently, according to managersa, not

Pretty disgusting. Unless you give patients the right to travel further for acceptable service perhaps...

Very interested in this. GPs are great but the difficulty in getting appointments is huge. Would like to support any intitiatives with regard to obtaining funding so that the practice has the reources it needs.

I don't know what we can do to get proper resources to the practice; it's particularly difficult right now because the regional heralth authorities are being replaced by clinical commissioning groups of GPs; 38 degrees in Harringay are trying to get GPs to stand against the govt' 'any provider' plan which is to privatise the health service; therefore the situation is currently still in change-over mode. It seems the first objective ought to be to reduce the current size of the practive and to be allowed to close their lists. Any suggestions from people in health service generally would be welcome

I've had perfectly reasonable care from them -my argument is about the practice itself being inflicted with such problems

I really sympathise with what you're trying to do Judy, I guess I'm just not sure this is the best platform for it. Maybe there are people on the site who are experts in the very specific thing you're looking for advice on, but to be honest, the main impact this post is having on me is making me wonder why the practice isn't trying to sort this out for itself? Aren't they the ones in the best position to be reaching out to the sort of groups who could help them with this?
