By way on an introduction, I am a 24 year old male who has lived in Hornsey ward for the last 4.5 years, and have recently moved into the Noel Park ward. I am not a true local as I grew up near Uxbridge but having lived in the area a while now, I absolutely love it, the people within it and really appreciate resources such as HoL to learn more about the area.
Growing up, I was always encouraged to have my own opinions through education and fact finding - I was never told who to vote for and as such have in my short time tried to vote for who I think will do the best for our community or country depending on the elections. I have therefore taken a keen interest in recent postings with regards to the local elections.
The reason for this post was just to say how disengaged and disappointed I feel after reading some of the posts. From reading about St Anns and the issues John is facing, to reading some of the personal attacks, the mud slinging, the petty tit for tat... the list could go one. It is worse then a school playground. And then people question why the "young" have such a low turn out?
What I would love to see, is candidates for all parties concentrating on what matters here - their party, and their policies and trying to win votes in our communities.
Good luck to all candidates tomorrow and who ever wins, fingers crossed you'll spend a little more time driving issues through to resolution within your respective ward, rather than writing drivel on HoL.
Kris
P.S I don't know, nor have ever met John - just sympathise with his situation from my (limited) understanding.

Thanks Kris.
What was done in St Ann's (vote rigging of the selection meeting) was learned by the protagonists when they were involved in student politics at Oxford. Alan Strickland in your ward should be able to confirm this in private if you speak to him. As far as I am concerned it has no place in the adult world of running a municipality, a view not shared by those in the Labour Party locally who are practicing for higher office.
All you need to do is vote, the rest just happens by magic (honest). Good luck.
Completely! I have been so disappointed by some of the candidates (of all political stripes) behaviour on here. Several people seem to be more interested in making a clever clever swipes at people, than actually showing they care about Harringay and want to make a difference to the community.
It's a bit like the whole row about MPs behaviour at PMQs damaging the public's trust in politicians. People are coming across as childish bullies, not people I'd feel comfortable going to as a constituent. From the behaviour of some of the candidates on here I get the impression that I'd be more likely to get a pithy put down from them than a sympathetic response.
Like Kris I'm politically engaged and interested, but reading some people's posts on here makes me feel disengaged. Sorry but I really don't want to vote for someone who can't behave with respect, dignity and good manners on an online forum, and hasn't got the self-awareness to see how badly some of their posts might come across.
