Tags for Forum Posts: local nurseries, local schools
its been a couple of years since these threads and was wondering if anyone has any more recommendations. Our son will be needing a nursery in September and we are very keen to hear peoples thoughts on what there is locally.
Two years on, and I still can't recommend Little Jewels highly enough! My son, along with about 7/8 others will be leaving at the end of August for "big school" so this is a good time to get a place! The staff are still wonderful and they have spent some money on new toilets and the outdoor area. Still the best value around too. Their fees have only gone up by £10pcm in the last 3 years.
101 just over the railway tracks in Hornsey. Amazing nursery with a lovely ethos, transformed our 3-year old. Very much a word of mouth place, but given it just won Britain's Best Loved Nursery in Practical Parenting magazine, may not be like that for much longer.
Our son has been at Little Jewels for nearly 18 months now and I recommend it highly. It's not fancy but the staff are great and it's very reasonably priced. We will be sending our daughter there very soon!
Hi, After much deliberation we decided on Orange Day nursery for our son who is now two. He loves it and we are very pleased with how well he is coming on there. It seems a very busy nursery at times but they have a lovely outside space and seem to make good use of the inside space for messy play too. Our son is amazing with adults and children too and i feel he has come on leaps and bounds in terms of vocabulary, knowledge and understanding and ability to share and develop good relationships. I would definitely recommend visiting them all as i was very impressed with little angels too, but it was not close enough to the tube for us and i wasn't willing to put aside an hour a day walking to and from nursery. Good luck with your search.
My son went to Little Jewels and I can add my voice to the chorus of voices praising it. The staff are excellent, and seem to bring out the best in the children. and it's a lot cheaper than some of the competition.
Just to update this thread (from nearly two years ago, wow). After viewing most of the nurseries on this list, we sent our son to Noah's Ark in Wood Green, where he has been very happy. The staff have always been excellent with him and know every little thing about him. He was very upset at starting nursery, so spent a lot of time being cuddled and carried around by staff, which was possible as it isn't a massive nursery, so ratios were very good.
It isn't the place with the best premises to be honest (there is a serious lack of outdoor space for example), but he really likes it, which is the important thing. It has quite a free schedule, rather than fully timetabled activities. This felt a bit more like a home environment to me. Also, there has been virtually no staff turnover in the last two years and now in the "big" room, he has a keyworker who knew him as a nine-month old. The fact that he has known all the staff since he started is a really big plus for me.
I also really liked Little Jewels for pretty much the same reasons, but it wasn't so convenient for my work. I wasn't so keen on Orange although clearly people like it as it has so many good reports on here. I thought the premises were lovely but it was too expensive for us and I wasn't so keen on the more timetabled routine. This is not a criticism of the nursery, by the way, just my taste. I never saw Eagle or 101.
thanks everyone for your suggestions.
Little Jewels are doing their annual summer play and "graduation" ceremony for the children that leave for big school very soon (I won't say exactly when in case of weirdos!) but I'm sure if you phoned and asked to come along you'd not only enjoy the show but get a chance to meet the other parents etc.
