Harringay, Haringey - So Good they Spelt it Twice!

"The lamps are going out all over Europe. We shall not see them lit again in our lifetime"

Foreign Secretary, Sir Edward Grey, spoke these words when Britain officially entered the First World War. Today, exactly 100 years later, the British Legion are inviting millions of individuals, households and companies to join together in a national moment of reflection.

They are encouraging everyone in the UK to turn off their lights between 10pm and 11pm tonight – leaving only a single light or candle for this symbolic act of reflection and hope.

Whether its with present day events in the Middle East in mind, or for other reasons, it will be interesting to see how many lights are out in Harringay tonight.

My lights went out. I crocheted my own poppy for rememberance day last year and will now wear it everyday for the next four years of rememberance. I feel lucky to be in this time and place to be a part of the anniversary of the Great War.
