Back in June last year. I added a post about the 2012 Olympics lettings market and mused on how it may effect Harringay. Today I got something of an answer.
This afternoon I was out in Harringay with a local businessman. We bumped into one of his clients. Charlie, from Hampden Road, shared with us what to me was almost incredible news. He told us that his downstairs neighbour had just secured an Olympics let of his two bed Hampden Road flat at £1,500 per week. Yes, PER WEEK!
Hard to believe, but apparently true. I introduced myself, explained the reason for my interest and asked Charlie which agency his neighbour had let through. He wasn't sure of the exact one, but assured me that a quick Google would offer a range of agencies.
Sure enough and here's a Google search on 'London olympics lettings'.
Diving into a randomly chosen site seems to suggest that the figure Charlie quoted is pretty realistic. The site I looked at included:
- Mountview Road 5 bed house at £9,995 per week
- Shaftesbury Road, N19, 2 bed flat at £2,000 per week
- Quernmore Road, 2 bed flat at £1,795 per week
Quite something of an Olympics bonanza!
Has anyone else been down this route?
£1500 that amazing and tempting as it is, would rather be poor rather than the upheaval of staying somewhere else and put all my stuff away, only to come back and find my place had been trashed-
good for anyone who does it, doesnt sound an easy option to me
I don't think it will artificially hike values, these guys go home again so how can it? People will see it for what it is, a few weeks to make enough to pay off a bit more mortgage, or pay off a debt perhaps. The values will of course thereafter depend on who's around to rent when it's all over, and it will be the same lot as now. Yes, it is a hassle, and dane66 sums it up well. But maybe some need the money enough to try, and good for them if they can manage it. On the one hand the press is all full of how the 'middle are being squeezed', and as soon as someone tries to get a good deal for themselves others seem to resent it. Ask yourself, if you are left 20,000 in a will would you refuse it? Would you deny a doughnut seller on a beach the chance to make a few bob? What really lies between that and someone trying to let their own home for a few weeks?
