I'm doing this right now. I went to the Lease Advice Bureau who have a list of solicitors on their website. I chose Comptons Solicitors because they seemed to know what they were doing and offered an all-inclusive package at a reasonable (but not the cheapest) price.

I can't make a professional recommendation, but I'll happily make a personal one.

I met Murat Kinas from Kinas Solicitors on Green Lanes near Umfreville when he bought the last of the big maps recently. He struck me as not only professional but also he seemed very friendly. He may be worth checking.

I am taking the informal route so there's no negotiation to be done. I just need a solicitor to go over the paperwork and check everything is ok

Have you spoken to the free Lease Advisory Service at - www.lease-advice.org/-? They can give free phone advice about the process and have a list of solicitors. I have had difficulties with my leaseholder so am happy to share my experience/knowledge if that would be helpful. Please e-mail me. Liz

Hi, it is very important you get expert legal and valuation advice and what can appear to be small errors can become very expensive very quickly and you should never believe what freeholders tell you but get your own valuation, it will invariably save you money in the long run. I specialise in these valuations and can recommend several local solicitors.  If you would like to let me know who the freeholder is I can let you know which of the solicitors I think would be the most useful.  Or if you prefer you can email me at Alison.stone@prickettandellis.com.

Hi KP - I'd be happy to recommend a great local solicitor that always does a great job with lease extensions.  The reason I am confident is because he continually looks after the many clients that I send his way - and has done so over the last 20 years.
