Dear Neighbours,
One of the great things about having been a local councillor was that I got to see a great deal of the splendid work that is being done by the many dedicated organisations that work in our community.
Of these, few can match the LONDON CENTRE FOR CHILDREN WITH CEREBRAL PALSY, and I'm running the London Marathon for them on 26th April.
Because it is located in Muswell Hill, everyone in Haringey can take pride in it.
Every day in London a child is born with cerebral palsy. It is a non-progressive condition which occurs because of an injury to the brain before, during or shortly after birth. It results in impairment to voluntary movement and co-ordination.
The London Centre is a true centre of excellence. Many of its staff have been trained at the renowned Peto Institute in Budapest, which pioneered "Conductive Education." Through this approach, pupils learn how to be as independent as possible, and their parents are taught how to continue the children's learning away from the centre. This shared experience transforms life for the families who are affected.
The results are often amazing.
This is a very exciting time for the centre. It has moved to a temporary location while a brand new facility is being prepared, which will help more and more families.
It has launched a £2.2 Capital fund raising campaign, and I am delighted to be a part of it.
