Residents in the N4 area recorded PM2.5 levels exceeding 350 µg/m³ last Wednesday evening.
To put that into perspective, the Government's Daily Air Quality Index classifies particulate pollution above 71 µg/m³ as "Very High". Our local readings were almost five times higher than the top of that scale.
At these levels, public health advice is stark:
⚠️ Stay indoors where possible
⚠️ Keep windows and doors closed
⚠️ Avoid outdoor exercise and strenuous activity
This month, residents will have the opportunity to meet with Haringey Council's Director of Public Health and Head of Regulatory Services. We need to ensure they hear directly from those affected by these repeated pollution events and understand the impact they are having on our health, wellbeing and quality of life.
Most importantly, we need clear plans.
When the meeting invitation is circulated, please sign up and attend. Change will only happen if residents speak with a united voice and demand meaningful action.
We support a thriving local restaurant scene. But a vibrant food culture and clean air should not be mutually exclusive. Haringey Council must move faster and make protecting public health a priority.
