Harringay, Haringey - So Good they Spelt it Twice!

A previous owner of Charlie Browns has applied for a new licence for the venue - now called Grand Palace and Bar N22 - which would allow lap dancing.

The bar is just two doors away from an old people's home and opposite Haringey's Civic Centre.

Raj Doshi, chairman of I Can Care - a drop-in centre for elderly residents based in nearby Woodside House, said: "It may bring in a lot of ugliness. To me a dance is a dance, but if it brings in other stuff - drugs, prostitution, the shadowy characters, for all these reasons I would prefer, if I had a tick box, not to have it."

Woodside ward councillor George Meehan (Labour) said: "We would prefer that it isn't successful. The last time people weren't very happy, so I can't see that they'll suddenly become happy.

"Lap dancing or pole dancing seems to be a fairly common thing now where as once upon a time it wasn't." said Steve Gordon.

Residents can comment on the Grand Palace/Bar N22 application until Tuesday, April 14, by contacting Haringey Council licensing team on 020 8489 8232, or licensing@haringey.gov.uk.

Are you saying that is a lap dancing club? Even sometimes?
Sorry, HOL crashed on me again!

Venue has apllied for lap dancing licence.
What's this obsession with lap dancing clubs..?

I'm beginning to think there's more than meets the eye to all this..

I find it all rather pubescent.. like something talked about behind bike-sheds at school..
I'm interested to see whether this application in no-mans land part of N22 gets as much discussion and opposition as the other application a little way over in Crouch End. I suspect it won't and thus far that's bearing out. There's only two weeks to object according to the Journal. Still, I guess the councillors need somewhere lively to go after all those boring meetings over the road at the Civic Centre.
Matt I think we've had enough discussions on lap dancing licence applications out of our area to last us all year, thanks. The issues are the same as for the CE licence. Nuff said.
Hugh, this discusson is to highlight a licence application for a lap dancing club in Wood Green which people may wish to object to. I've reopened it for that reason only. I agree that the issues have been discussed elsewhere so, no need to go over them again here. I'll happily monitor my own discussion to that effect.
Hugh, please leave this open. It will die its own death (hopefully) and the issue for me is nimbyism (I think I just made that word up). If anyone in CE responds to it and promises to put the same chutpah to an anti-lapdancing campaign that they have behind their ridiculous campaign against the one on Tottenham Lane then I will have some apologising to do.
Sure John, but none of this is the point of the site and most people who read it aren't really interested in finding out whether a couple or people from CE are Nimbys. And I'm sure we could match them pound for pound with Harringaeite nimbys anyway.
