Harringay, Haringey - So Good they Spelt it Twice!

This is my first post on here, so apologies if I commit a faux pas.

My name is Rob and I live on the Ladder. I’m a designer in my daily life and I had an idea recently I could with some help in.

In a nut shell I’d like to put together a collection of recipes from residents on the ladder, print it in a newspaper and then distribute it back to the extended community, giving everyone a taste. I want it to be about the people and the businesses that make up this vibrant area of London, as much as the food. 

I’m not looking for anything too specific – maybe you’d like to submit your favourite dish, or the one you know you can nail every time. Or the one you cook over and over again because its’s so good or so cheap, or so easy. It can be basic, complicated or one your grandmother told you about years ago and has never changed. Maybe it reminds you of home, or your childhood. It can be a light snack, a main course, desert, dip, or what you cook when the family come over. 

Anything.

PS. If you live on my road you probably received a letter from me at the end of last year reciting pretty much the above.

That's such a lovely and thoughtful also brilliant idea my only worry is that you will go to all that effort and I seem to remember something or someone from haringay council doing something very similar asking on Twitter ask around as my memory is sketchy on it now, I'm sorry I'm not more help but I love your idea and would welcome any recipe ideas as I'm bored stiff of the ones I use day after day I will def send you my faves

Effort isn't a problem, I'm not doing for anything other than i think it'll be an interesting project. Hopefully I can improve on what has been tried in the past :)

 A few local schools have already done this iirc.

Mondays  = spag bol or stir fry using Sunday left overs.  They are bored rigid of it, as am I, but that's family life for you.

Well hopefully it would be a little more varied than spag bol... 

The second stage of this is that contributors (who were keen) would allow me and my photographer friend to come over, have a chat, talk about why they submitted their dish, a bit about themselves, where they grew up etc. so this meal becomes a little snapshot of the person. The idea is you learn about your community, not just have something else to cook on a Tuesday.

I also want to include local businesses by listing products for specific recipes that can be bought on Green Lanes from independent shops.

Will you be using photos? Hope so. Would be good to know your timescale, and to have regular updates of how the number of recipes is approaching the optimum number for your publication.

yea the idea is to shoot people in their homes, and have a small chat/informal interview about the recipe. 

I'm hoping to get around 10-20 recipes from people. This is very up in the air at the moment because the more pages the newspaper has the more expensive it is to print, but this equally depends on how much revenue I can generate either through donations, sponsorship and/or advertising. 
First stage is really to get the recipes, photography and interviews done and then figure out production.

So in short the more the merrier because I'd like to do this as more than a one off. As you can imagine the timescale is fairly flexible.
