Harringay, Haringey - So Good they Spelt it Twice!

I have a large "No junk mail" sign on my front door, which is normally pretty effective in keeping down the pile of recycling. Today a wodge of leaflets came through the letterbox - I opened the door and was surprised to see a postman, as I had already received this morning's delivery. I said to him that I didn't want junk mail, as the notice on my door stated, but he replied that this wasn't junk, it was Royal Mail and "I have to deliver it". (Specsavers, pizza, Virgin offer "to the Occupier"...junk.)

Apparently there is a separate "door-to-door opt-out" form that you have to fill in, and renew every two years, and the postman then has to remember which houses on his route have opted out - not easy for a relief postman. In case you want to do this, you must email optout@royalmail.com, they send you a form which you then sign and post back. (You may no longer receive Haringey People, but if you're desperate you can read it in the library....)

I had a run-in with someone delivering Lib-Dem election letters a while back - to me it constituted unwanted junk mail but he assured me it was my "democratic right" to be kept informed. Straight in the recycling it went.
