Harringay, Haringey - So Good they Spelt it Twice!

Jarelle FRANCIS, Green Party Candidate in Harringay by-election, answering questions about air pollution

Jarelle FRANCIS gives a clear message: pollution around Harringay ward - and in Haringey generally - is far too high and action to reduce it must be taken urgently.

Green Party activists measured levels of NO2 pollution in the borough in January and out of 40 readings, 40 were above the EU legal limit. All three readings around Harringay ward were alarmingly high.

We will be putting up tubes again in the next few days - in Harringay ward to measure the impact of Wightman Road closure on Wightman Road, on the ladder and on Green Lanes.

TX1 need to move, before Yellow Prius take over as the London Cab.
I would take all feedback into account, and interrogate the issue further looking at movement generators, through a process of urban design analysis. This would provide a layering of information that would go further than just providing data. Harringay and wider Haringey need to form an urban design framework for a plan for our future, with aims and objectives.

The information gathered by Living Wightman, Haringey Green Party & Haringey Council is important to provide information that has been lacking for too long, momentum is gathering, and we will all be calling for wider action, and community enguagement.

We should aim to improve the public realm and pedestrian linkages, looking at safety, access and physical barriers that exist between communities locally.

Has Haringey commissioned an urban design framework for the area? six years and counting.

I would seek guidance from Imperial Collage, Westminster, Richard Rogers, responsible for the design intervention on Trafalgar Square, creating a National Public Realm.

I would consult Ken Livingstone and other politicos with existing experience, and emerging ideas to improve life for Harringay and wider London.

The information is available, we need to start drawing analysis and form a framework that will help London move forward to cleaner air, sustainable transport and have greater control over traffic to keep London moving.

London will continue to be an international conduit for people to live, it is a shining beacon, let's plan to provide a greater future, we have some of the best architects, engineers and designers in the world let's lead the path.
