Harringay, Haringey - So Good they Spelt it Twice!

Has anyone else noticed the infuriating non-stop noise from someone's garden in Effingham or Beresford (around the 30's/40's)? I'm almost certain that it is one of those sonic cat deterrents which is just going off all the time, emitting a constant high-pitch electronic whine. Almost impossible to sit out in the garden without it driving you mad.

We had the same problem two or three summers ago and noise enforcement helped get it stopped (they couldn't trace it but wrote to everyone in the area).

This wouldn't be the Audi beeping away on the south side of Effingham, would it?  It's an alarm of some kind, though not of the siren variety (it reminds me of a lorry's reversing sound).  If so, it belongs to a man in 66.  About a month ago it went off all weekend and, despite repeated visits from the council's noise squad, he seemingly refuses to get it repaired (now when it goes off he eventually runs out into the street, opens the bonnet and disconnects the alarm--but he always seems to reconnect it and the whole cycle starts again).  The noise squad at the council are all too familiar with him, and have fined him (though they say that they doubt that he'll ever pay--he's regularly ticketed as well).  I'm at a bit of a loss, though, because by the time the council calls back he's usually run out to disconnect.
No, it's in someone's garden and it's almost definitely one of those cat repeller sonic things (I know because I've got one myself). Must say I've never been aware of that Audi alarm.
No, it's a burglar alarm attached to the Mayoral Chain which she hides in the garden shed.

you should talk to your Safer Neighbourhood Team as they could get him an ASBO!
Hi, yes this noise really is horrific. Has anyone contacted the Council recently to complain? If not, I will do so.

I have contacted the council in the past but unless you can identify the precise house, there's not a huge amount they can do (see above). I knocked on some doors on Beresford and my own street at the weekend and at one point on Saturday afternoon, it was turned off, but then it was back on again on Sunday afternoon.

So the important thing right now is to establish where it's coming from. If you can knock on some doors, ask around, someone must have a garden next to the offending garden and be able to pinpoint it.
