They were just locking the gates at 11.30 so now you can't pass through the park at all. The entire bottom end is now de facto Live Nations, even the parts outside of the gates.
They have definitely expanded this year, and I don't think these gates were in place in previous years. Getting a bit ridiculous now.
I have memories of really struggling to find a way through last year when cycling in to work, wanting to go north > south and being told by festival staff that it was doable, even if it wasn't obvious to me, so if they are closing all that off it is an expansion compared to last year. I think as well that they kept changing which gates were open, so it was technically true that there was access but it made it hard to actually use, as the route you took one day would have changed a couple of days later. It is, however, possible that I was just not very awake on the way into work, so take that with a pinch of salt
Seeing as the running track, lake, and flat areas by the train line are all out of bounds, this is a pretty insane takeover of public space. With the locking off of R4 route by the east coast mainline, many are cut off the station and shops.
How are people meant to reach the 'open' tennis courts?
Why did they spend £1million on flat bit of concrete "skatepark" that is seemingly shut to the public and used by the festival? Was it actually ever for skaters or did the festival want a large concrete pad?
HARINGEY council is likely to have agreed this closure via their Events Team. Council loyalty is to their paying customer and not to tax-paying residents. Their Major Events policy has been in place for 10 years and ever since, their customer has pushed the envelope. Council leader Peray Ahmet is a fan of the policy.
THESE officers have been abstracted from Police forces all over London so as not to create too much of a gap in any one force.
The decimation of forces over the Capital—for what is in effect, baby-sitting—may slightly increase crime over the Capital, but Haringey Council is unlikely to care.
Last weekend, a security guard claimed to a friend and me that there would be riots this weekend. By which, she likely meant attempted break-ins. Which have happened before.
THERE is insufficient care or attention to public money at the council.
Following the government's Emergency Financial Assistance package, the continues to spend money like water. The council has lost control of salaries, with 40+ paid six figure sums.
Much will be spent on Borough of Culture 2027, which is the real interest of the leadership.
The Director of Culture is paid at UK Prime Minister-level, with an annual pension contribution alone, more than a Librarian earns in a years. Is this fair?
In case anyone has forgotten, the Borough of Culture has slashed library opening hours by almost a third.
