Harringay, Haringey - So Good they Spelt it Twice!

This school seems to be by miles the worst offender in the area.

The parents park illegally on double yellow lines directly opposite the school, blocking traffic and cause a very significant danger to children emerging between parked cars to go to school.

There is both free and pay and display parking within meters of the school.

The parents who park illegally are also verbally abusive, and I have witnessed one occasion where a pedestrian child was nearly hit by an illegally parked car who pulled out quickly without looking.

I have tried contacting the school and headteacher, but as far as I can see no action has been taken. If anything the situation is getting worse.

I worry that a child/ other road user will be hurt.

What can be done?

Perhaps you should email the Chair of Governors yourself rather than asking the school to do it on your behalf. And contact the council again - other schools in the area have a regular (ish) enforcement officer on patrol.

Does your school have a PTA? Maybe they can help promote this issue.

Schools have enough to deal with already!

A quick update for those who raised concerns about the parking situation outside St Marys Priory school on Hermitage Road.  Double yellow lines have now been painted on the kerb which means that motorists can no longer “stop” or “unload”, which previous to this they could, despite there being double yellow lines on the road. Traffic enforcement officers have always patrolled outside during the school run, but were powerless ( yes powerless) to issue tickets, now “on the spot” £65 fines can be issued.   As a parent ( non-driving to school) of children at the school, I know that the Head and her staff have worked tirelessly with parents, the local authority and the police to resolve this issue, which they now have . I was however really disappointed to hear that in the various discussions about this issue some contributors (not necessarily here ) have felt the need to mock and insult the religious beliefs of our school community ….. such a shame .

You have to admit it took a lot of pressure to get where we are now. This is a problem that has been bad for a very long time. I don't think to criticise the people for highlighting this as an issue as though they are some how trouble-makers.
I agree, the parking situation has been bad for many years.

The subtext from those associated with the school seems to be that there is no right for the public to highlight this issue, or that it is the council's responsibility. In reality, keeping children safe should be everyone's responsibility. The stretch of road outside the school is dangerous enough without illegal parking.

I have not made, nor seen, any comments about religious beliefs in this thread.
No nor me ...I really haven't a clue what religion has to do with it

There was a pretty feeble joke from FPR about nuns, but you would have to be super-sensitive to see that as  mocking and insulting religious beliefs.

This is what I saw when I took my son to school this week...

Nicky Morgan & Sir Michael Wlshaw should step in to academise this failing school forthwith - for failing to select parents with common and road manners; failing to enforce L.B.Haringey's parking bye-laws; failing to open Hermitage Road as a true rat run; failing to relocate to Hornsey N8 to cover for Council incompetence;  failing to be open during holidays to answer queries and complaints; failing to keep everyone happy on HarringayOnline.
