Harringay, Haringey - So Good they Spelt it Twice!

Ice cream shop with no name due to open at the end of the month

Work is progressing  at the ice cream shop being developed in the former Prospero's in Crouch End.

I poked my head in whilst passing today and met Sean and Will who'll be running it. Former financier Will and restaurateur Sean genned up on all things ice cream at a university in Italy. The shop when it opens later this month will however be aiming at a more trad British ice cream parlour feel than a gelateria, As well as ice cream there'll be seating where they'll be serving coffee.

As yet they haven't decided on a name. Apparently, they've yet to agree on what it should be called. All I can tell you is that it won't be an Italian name!

I can't help but wonder how this will fair when the snow comes again and we're all freezing cold.  Isn't ice-cream a bit seasonal?  I'm sure I'll be proved wrong but do we have the climate for year round ice-cream?  I suppose there's Marine Ices in Chalk Farm which fairs very well (or did the last time I visited...).  I am excited about the idea of an ice cream parlour though.

How about 'Frozen Assets (or even Assettes)' as a name to follow Prospero's lack of prosperity?

In Paris, of course, a 'financier' is a light moist sponge teacake (no, not a cupcake), almondy and topped with whipped cream, fruit, berries accompanied by ice cream. It's only fair that Will should launch his new career with at least this nominal BONUS.

I saw some financiers in Gail's today when I bought the world's tiniest but most expensive passionfruit meringue.  They did look little almondy buns with cherries in them. Definitely not cupcakes, no cups for a start!
