Harringay, Haringey - So Good they Spelt it Twice!
I think ive spotted two conversions near Bruce Castle Park, and need some advice
Took a good look today at both of them on my walk to and from the park and cannot find them on Harringey Planning Services.
They are:
95 Birkbeck/Birbeck Road
94 Bruce Castle Road
Both end of terrace, but one is boarded up at the bottom with metal boards. Both have the usual brand new double glazing fitted. Sorry to say that they both smell of bedsit conversions. No95 is huge and dosnt look like its being renovated into a family home.
What do you do if they don't show up on planning call the council?

Ive looked at the council tax bands and they say E for 93 Birkbeck changing to C in May 25th 2008.
94 Bruce Castle is listed as C from 14/10/05.
I am right in thinking these are listed as family homes and not flats?

If they were split into two flats, there would be 2 properties listed with a valuation. The fact there is only one for each address suggests they are both listed as homes.

I'm sure they will be multiple bedsits soon enough. Who do you alert at the council?

Ben Goldacre is the guy who does the Bad Science column in the Guardian. You can google for him. He writes things on his twitter account, sometimes interesting things, mostly slagging off "science" journalism and Homeopathy. Quick update
[I also got the numbering wrong in my last post, appologies]
94 Bruce Castle Road has removed its metal boards, and interestingly the side entrance door has number '23' on it [?] and looks enhabited. As far as I am aware you can't have 94/23 on one house. You have to apply to the Post Office so they can change the house numbers and register it for post. Would it not be easier to number them 94a and 94b? Any thoughts re this please post. Its CTVL changed 14/10/2005 to 'C' so the owners could have been sitting and waiting for the 4 year rule to expire?
I have reported it to planning, they say no planning apps have been logged. They also don't get the 94/23 numbering.
I have reported the other one 95 Birkbeck Road. Despite it looking abandoned half way through its 're development', the council have no planning app for it. On the CTVL it shows that in 1993 it was listed as band 'E' but on the 26/05/08 this was deleted.
Interestingly the house opposite it [no96] has a skip outside, so just to be safe have asked this be looked at too its CTVL show a 'D'.
I find it funny how all three houses are spitting distance from each other and are all end of terraces. They are large homes too, so ideal for cutting up into bedsits or converting into two flats. Again there are no planning apps and they show as family homes on the council tax banding. I can only see one meter for each house too.
Having said that, there are no obvious multiple door bells as yet, so it could be a case of internal bedsits with locks on each internal unit. Nightmare for the neighbors when they move tenants in and their mates come knocking.
Have a seven day wait now for planning to feed back to me.

Have has very positive feed back this moring from the Planning Enforcement officer re the three suspect conversions near Bruce Castle Park;
95 Birkbeck Road no planning permission, council are seeking to buy the property as the company that was developing it has gone bust.
94 Birkbeck/Birbeck Road, owners refused the officer a proper full inspection, or to take photos or to see into the bedrooms. Begs the question what were they hiding?
He has verbally and in writing told them that the house will be monitored and if they are found to have converted it into bedsit units the council will take action. The officer said they have put what looks like a fourth bedroom on the ground floor so there are four possible bedsit units.
I will have an update again by Friday.
Does anyone get the difference with individual bedsit units and ones with shared W/C and kitchen?
94 Bruce Castle Road is pending an inspection this week.
