Harringay online

Harringay, Haringey - So Good they Spelt it Twice!

I'm not sure this is a crime. Well... perhaps illegal dumping at the least.
This is a patch of waste ground opposite the Pegasus way retail thingy (Halfords, Currys, some sports store) sandwiched between an estate, the north circular, muswell hill golf club and the train line.
I found this marginally fascinating, so took a walk down here a couple of weekends ago. Unfortunately the area is really overgrown and I couldn't take any photos.

Interestingly, if you look at the same area with MSN Live Maps (now Bing Maps... haha!) the cars are fewer or harder to spot and the place seems more overgrown.

I have too much time on my hands!

Tim, Impressive detective work here. Though, personally, I'm more of a coward. And would be reluctant to tramp on my own through dense undergrowth, looking for burned-out cars - and maybe coming across the people who set them alight.

I've passed on your screenshots and the URL to Haringey Urban Environment. In case you didn't know, you can report things online here. There's an abandoned vehicles category.

You don't need to complete your personal details if you don't want to. But giving your email address gives you an immediate emailed acknowledgement and reference number; so you can chase it up if you want.

Wow, I know that bit of the world pretty well and had no idea there was such an overgrown stretch there (or that the golf course was so enormous). Couldn't they make it into allotments or something?
I found loads of burnt-out cabinet members, using Street View . . .
Thanks for this Tim. It looks like a dumping ground for stolen motors. We have now discovered twenty four on your google earth shot. The info has been passed to Alexandra Ward SNT
Amazing! If you get these removed I'd love to see a photo. You can imagine how surprised I was to spot these less than a mile from my house!
We`ve also put it onto our intelligence system.Turned out to be time well spent by you :)
Detective Tim! How bizarre, you've come across a major dumping ground for cars used for no doubt all manor of crimes. Well done. Think the police should give you a medal! :)
Haha, I think it's more of a sad indictment of how busy I am at work at the moment. I like using google maps to find interesting things in the localle- of instance turn on the 'defense of britain' database and it shows all the pillboxes, safehouses and bridge defences that would have been used had the Germans invaded. There's a good few of these left around here.

I mentioned the cars to the drummer in my band and she did say "well check if my old car is down there".
Very useful result! I've told Haringey staff and asked them to contact the Alexandra ward SNT so there's no parallel working.
Surely a police helicopter would have already spotted this car dumping area!
Just a thought Any idea how old the images are? They could be up to five years old? Couldn't they?

@Matt .. yeah but, the police can't be everywhere at all times .. (thank goodness) - I wouldn't want to live anywhere where that was the case..
I love this! Well done Mr Marple
