I'm not a great fan a faux-Victorian infill builds and was delighted when I saw a planning application for a modern build on an infill site in my road a few years back. Today I noticed another application for a modern style infill build on Frobisher. Three cheers say I.
You can see the full application here.
If you have any interest in what happens near your house, see also this post I've just added.

I love it too. It's great. SWIMBY.
Yes far more stylish than the pair of new 'Victorian' ones at the top of our road.
Friends of mine did an excellent job on their new home in Brockley: http://www.homesandproperty.co.uk/luxury/interiors/brockley-junkyar...
So it can be done well. You'd never know it was a new house from the front, it matches next door so well (or will when the front garden is finished). But I have nothing against modern designs and that design looks nice.
Since writing this I've learned that the space for these houses has been won by the owner of a property fronting on to Wightman slicing off half his back garden. IN planning terms, a possibly less than beneficial policy principle to allow to be established.
Yes, that's plain to see if you look at the historical google streetview pictures. Developers are hunting around London for just such sites, large back yard with street access. As long as you don't actually live there and you just have tenants who can't take care of the garden properly (because they own no gardening tools) then why not? Loads 'a money.
