Harringay, Haringey - So Good they Spelt it Twice!

As the IDF scambles to provide an alternate explanation for the bombing of a hospital, let's remind ourselves of David Lammy's stance on the current conflict.

It's understood that Starmer and Lammy met with council leaders today and were told in no uncertain terms to fix up.

Why should we believe your narrative?

Given the choice between accepting the Israeli Defence Forces explanation or the one offered by Hammas, I know which one I believe. One side uses its Defence force to protect its civilians, the other uses its civilians as human shields to protect its terrorists.

I don't often agree with David Lammy but even a broken clock is right twice a day.

Well said

Well said.

I'm sorry but the suggestion that the IDF exists to protect its civilians is laughable. The IDF's long history of brutalizing Palestinians is well documented (see the death of 12 year old Muhammad al-Durrah in 2000). I have no sympathy for Hamas, but the line that they use civilians as human shields (be it true or not) is outright propaganda, used to wave away the enormous cost to life when Israel retaliates at a people who *are not a state* and *do not have their own military*.

I am disappointed in David Lammy. I really expected a greater drive for peace and a less war-mongering approach from all our politicians.

Somewhat subjective interpretation there, given that the quoted document states that Israel has the right to defend itself/ rescue hostages in line with international law. It uses that phrase twice, on one page.

And that is entirely correct.

James N was suggesting that the IDF is responsible for the hospital explosion. My point is that we don't know who is responsible. We will never know but on the balance of probability I'm more likely to believe what the IDF says than what Hammas say. It is terrible what Hammas is doing to the Palestinian people and it is terrible what they did to the Israelis as well (and what they continue to do to the hostages).

Not a great summary of what I was suggesting, Cem. But given your particular understanding of probabilities, I'd like to extend an invitation to join our poker night this Saturday. I suspect you would be a very welcome guest at our table.

I'm by no means a supporter of Israel's actions in Gaza and the West Bank over decades, but we must rely on evidence rather than jumping to theories which match our view of the situation. It looks like on this occasion, the Israeli version of events is most likely to be the correct one. The below is from Bellingcat - highly respected, truly  independent, investigative citizen journalists.

Thanks for the introduction, but anyone who's spent more than 15mins reading the news in the last decade is aware of what Bellingcat is. That every one of their 'truly independent' investigations has aligned with a Western (read:US) orthodoxy is I'm sure, purely coincidental. This aside, you've missed the point.

The bombing of the hospital was shocking beyond belief. And the Israelis changed their story several times, before turning to blame Hamas. Unbelievable. They initially more or less admitted they had done it, justifying by saying Hamas ere everywhere so impossible to discriminate where they bomb

the whole situation is so heartbreaking for both sides

From the responses to this thread that remain online, it's interesting to note the number that ignore the substantive point and instead focus on the application of blame for a single horrific event in the ongoing war.

What's less interesting and much more depressing are the claims that criticism of the IDF should only be apportion once irrefutable evidence of this one instance is gained. This is magnified by a childlike and contradictory insistence that 'probabilities' or 'truly independent sources' have somehow informed their own conclusions.

The point of the post is that our member of parliament has proffered and enforced the view within his party that objectively identifiable and ongoing breaches of international law are in some way able to be framed as 'self defence'.

Keir Starmer, his boss, tried today to row back on this grotesque stance, but in doing so has simply confirmed a widely held view that he is inherently dishonest and untrustworthy. Starmer flatly denied making statements clearly recorded in an LBC interview... when he justified the breaches of international law because of Israel's right to self defence. It was an outright lie. Not uncommon in the current political landscape, but a lie nonetheless.

Lammy is our nation's Foreign Secretary elect. A lock. Yet so desperate is he to get over the line he will simply cleave to the current political consensus in order to appear competent.

The bombing of the Ahli Arab Hospital ignited what my generation referred to as the 'Arab street'. Nations and populations as yet unanimated by the Israeli/Gaza conflict were suddenly tipped over the edge. There was a step change in the hostilities of Muslim and Arab populations toward Israel, irrespective of who was to blame.

The West and our Ladder landlord Lammy stoked this inevitable bonfire with their lazy and bigoted statements of support for Israel's right to perpetrate war crimes. This is why he ought not to have slept well.

The cause of the Ahli Arab hospital bombing remains undetermined, but the 14 other hospitals, the churches, schools, refugee camps, and southern border crossings... well, IDF is bang to rights there.

But sure, hang your hats on the possibility they weren't responsible for this one atrocity.

if only there was a large country next to Gaza with a small population density ,the same religion ,culture and environment
