Harringay, Haringey - So Good they Spelt it Twice!

How to start looking for a shared ownership flat in Haringey or Hackney?

Hi everyone

Does anyone know where and how to start looking for a shared ownership 1 bed flat?  I'm currently renting on Hewitt Road and I'm a first time buyer.  I'm overwhelmed by where and how to start! If anybody has any experience,or advise on which housing associations are good, and which that are not, then I'd love to hear from you  Any advise would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks very much

Hi Sam,

register on First Steps (used to be Housing Options- Google them) they work with all the major HAs I think. I did it a couple of years ago and got a resale 1 bed flat in Hornsey (meaning it wasn't a brand spanking new build- it was a year old ;)). The process was pretty painless and I completed the purchase within 5 months of registering on the website. You can specify which boroughs you prefer (I think you get preference for the borough you live in though). My flat is managed etc by Metropolitan Home Ownership who have been quite good when it comes to any issues I raise with them being resolved- not that there have been many!! Once my offer was accepted on the flat I also used MHOs mortgage advisor to get a really good deal on the mortgage- you could do this independently though- I'm just lazy!!
A tip I would offer is once you are registered- keep an eye on their website daily- don't wait for the weekly lists of propertiies to be circulated!!!
Good luck on your search!
