How my Councillor has helped me / disappointed me
Got any tales you'd care to share about how one of your councillors has really impressed you? And to make sure we're not accused of lack of balance we'd also like to get any stories of how a councillor might have disappointed you.

Cllr Alexander has engaged positively and practically over the years with the problems of the long road we both live on as well as with a variety of wider Ladder issues. With Cllr Baker, she's kept in touch with and attended meetings of at least two RAs I know of. (Not something one can say of some other local councillors or 'cabinet members', despite invitations). She has obviously engaged with, and sometimes led on, many issues of concern to members of HOL. Several other councillors, or candidates for office, seem to hold themselves above any real engagement, even reactive, with members of this site.
Disappointed:
Purely in the context of my recent blog complaints of our MP's missing vote of confidence in the local schools of his constituency (and aware that a politician's children are not 'election fodder') disappointed to know that Cllr Alexander, too, has been unable to offer that same vote of confidence in any of our local schools this side of the tracks.

I have been disappointed by a local Cllr (named above) who only responds "keep me posted" and reiterates correspondence I have forwarded by other Council officers. I have been left disappointed by responses to my next door neighbours out building (HMO) and unsupported in the traffic calming measures/ footpath improvements on Wightman Road. I am left confused as to why some roads get better repairs/ improvements than others and it has been said on Harringayonline that some Cllrs/ officers may be responsible for "feathering their own nests" so to speak in getting their own roads done. I saw recent "PR" leafleting of Cllr Nulgar's work on Duckett Common and Fairfax Space? She might get my vote the next time.

Effingham Rd's street environment has been upgraded to a very high standard recently. Is this what you are alluding to? If you are then I can inform you that you're almost definitely wrong. Gina Adamou is the councillor who lives on Effingham Rd and I'm sure she would never do anything like that. I understand that you can't think of any other reason why this work has been done but I think you're being far too cynical in your approach. There is dignity in political representation. *cough*

Is that *cough* sarcasm? ;o) I think you did allude to an ex-Mayoress living on Effingham Road in a previous post but also my more affluent neighbours on Lothair Road South and Cavendish Road are also getting their "slabs" tended to. Our pavements have more footfall, are narrower and are in an appalling condition yet we are less of a priority? Maybe I am cynical but I feel it is unfair to pick and choose which streets get improved and which do not and I would be interested to find out from meeting notes how the decisions were made. The Cllr who can find this out gets my vote

You can make an FOI request. I think Councillor Haley lives down that way though...

OK, I've liked the LibDem ladies too. I like the way Nilgun engages with us and she seems very hard working. Alan Stanton is, of course, a star.
Gina has stated in the past that she did not take the allowance that the council offer for running the area assemblies but I wish she had, and spent it on a professional to do the job. We have the LCSP because the AAs are so rubbish, IMHO.

Agree with John. I worry about embarrassing him, but I've been really impressed with the way in which Alan Stanton has engaged with HOL and has followed up issues with concrete action and good advice.

Just for the record I have experience chairing meetings I have chair the Social Services Committee for 5 years, I have chaired the Haringey Joint Consultative Committee (Enfield and Haringey Health Authority) first for 2 years and later for another year, Scrutiny panels, public meetings, and as a Mayor Council meetings.
But when some people have no respect and are determent to disturb the meetings is difficult, but instead of criticize me you should criticize the people who only attend meetings so they can create chaos.
And as for Effingham Road the pot holes in the road were bad condition the council kept repairing them and few weeks later they used to collapse again, I asked
The cabinet member Cllr. Haley to visit Effingham Road the see for him self the state of the Road, when he visited an officer came with him and inspected the road. In Effingham Road we have an electrical company and they use lories every day. Because of the Lories the local residents used to park their cars over the pavements, the pavements were dangerous in some areas they actually collapse, I was pleased they replaced the pavements but I had only asked for the road to be repaired at the time.

Gina,
I for one roundly condemn people who come to any meetings, whether Area Assembly or smaller ones, and cannot behave in a civil manner. It's a tough one for any chair, but those who choose to use bullying and manipulative tactics need to be very firmly controlled, whether they be a resident or politician.
I think you'll find most people who attend any meetings you chair, whether small or large, would support you using all interventions available to the chair.
