Hello All,
This is my first post on Harringay Online as my wife and I moved to the Ladder in October of 2014. I wish my first post was done under better circumstances, but unfortunately, whilst we were away for the holidays, our flat was burgled. We aren't sure of the exact incident date/time, as we are still abroad and our sister-in-law discovered the intrusion on the 2nd of Jan after visiting our flat to water our plants.
The burglars went right for our bedroom and nicked my wife's macbook and other things. But the most upsetting things taken were her family heirlooms. A mid-size green wooden box housed 5-6 generations of engagement rings and other meaningful jewelry from my wife's mum, grandmother, etc...
My wife's grandmother had a hand-written note with all of the jewelry that was in the box: http://i.imgur.com/LJE6kKj.jpg
From this letter, the descriptions for the jewelry inside the green box mentioned above are as follows:
Obviously the likelihood of this getting returned is low, but I figured it was worth a shot.
Thank you everyone and please do be secure and vigilant.

unfortunate, but these low level thieves are applying their trade on every street and road. The best advice for the future is make your home less attractive by installing a burglar alarm that as well as sounding off, notifies you by phone and also installing CCTV for added deterrence. Agree with a neighbour(s) if you can call them to check if your alarm goes off while you are away. It all works well and the CCTV really deters them from snooping around. If its a flat see if others want to share communal CCTV security. No one wants to shell out £££ to deter thieves but the violation of your home and theft makes a negative impact, that for me justifies the cost and it could happen again. Crime is rising regardless of the cooked figures coming from certain authorities so an unpalatable investment in security could be viewed as standard kit for any home just like a washing machine especially if nobody is in for large portions of the day/holiday breaks.
