A Hornsey & Wood Green election candidate is expected to issue a retraction letter after publishing untruth.
This, in one of the country's most marginal electorates. The consequences of breaching Section 106 of the Representation of the People Act (1983) can be severe:

If a retraction letter is not sent out to those residents whom her Party sought to mislead, there's likely to be a visit to libel lawyers, tomorrow (Monday).

I agree with pamish, Lynn was in government at the time. She (Lynn) has emailed me about this today. I've replied telling her that the Lib Dems' very negative campaigning, and this latest stunt of threatening to sue for libel are some of the reasons that so many of us want to vote her out. I also asked her what campaigning she did against the immigration vans.
God know where she got my email address from! :-(

Politicians banging on about lies is pretty funny. I know they have to stretch definitions and meanings but it's a thin line.... OK Outright libel hurts but this is losing more cred than it may gain. Some Labour Party intern didn't do their research properly. A mistake. And LF was in the cabinet at the time.

Clive, you have STILL failed to answer why the Lib Dem candidate (i.e. local (well, Highgate) heiress Lynn Featherstone) has sent out political leaflets that are in the traditional colour of another party, and that require the use of a magnifying glass to read the fact that the leaflet is in fact from the Lib Dems. Can you not at least admit that this was more than a tiny bit sneaky?
I'll be honest, I have always traditionally been a Labour supporter, but never had anything against the Lib Dems at all, and may have considered voting for them in particular circumstances in the past.
But your performance in coalition with the Tories, and the way that Lynn/Lib Dems have conducted themselves locally, have meant that now I am about as likely to vote Lib Dem as I would be to vote Tory (ie fat chance!).

As I mentioned in my first post, my husband has previously voted LD and might have considered doing so again but has been put off by their dirty tricks and negative campaigning. It may make you feel better to dismiss us all as people who would never vote LD but I'm afraid the electorate do care about things like this and it has definitely cost LD votes. While Clive would rather we all focus on a mistake made on a Labour leaflet, it's quite evident there's more concern about the blatantly misleading leaflets we're all receiving from the LDs!

Billy, today I've seen one instance of Labour's "Correction" statement.
It was personally addressed to the recipient. The wording was practically no more than appeared in Labour's statements to the press in the last couple of days. It's bald, terse and minimal.
The box containing their "correction" statement is surrounded by other Labour Party messages. It is arguably not as prominent as the original libellous material; it is not possible to tell whether all recipients of the original, deceitful statement, have received the "Correction".
A shabby business altogether. I do not know if it is over.

Mystery anonymous leaflet drops in Islington, Tories and LibDems both deny all knowledge.
Funny to think that some Anon with no link to either party would bother to design, print and distribute thousands of these things, hey?
