Ahead of its reopening on the 6th of December, I was shown around those public areas of the restored Hornsey Town Hall that were open.
I was able to grab this set of phone camera shots showing the high quality of the restoration work that has almost been completed. I look forward to getting access to the Chambers in due course.
....and I was delighted to see that the war memorial that used to be in St Paul's Harringay remains in good nick.

Great photos, Hugh. Thank you for sharing. How will these public areas be used ?
There’s a division between community space in most of the main town hall an hotel space. I’m not completely clear, but I think the roooms on the ground and first floors in the main part of the building will be for let and occasional rent by local businesses and community groups. The hotel rooms are in the back. There’s a restaurant/ bar being finished possibly also in the main part of the old building and I think a rooftop for the hotel was also mentioned.
Perhaps, there’ll be more info on Saturday.
Thanks. It all sounds really glam! I have a picture in my mind now of bright young things and lounge lizards with long cigarette holders draped across the Art Deco fixtures and fittings of a louche rooftop bar.
Great image!
Not quite so glam, but when those lounge lizards needed to pay their rates, they could have done so in splendid style in the room at the far end of the entrance space in the second image.
Great pictures, thanks Hugh. I will be trying out any art deco bar for sure!
The only bit that is a shame with the whole thing is the green space in front. In some way it seems so diminished to me. It was a proper little village green and it just doesn't feel like that anymore and I cannot quite put my finger on what has changed because the size is roughly the same. I get the access stuff as to why they took down the railings but when it was enclosed it was different - you could let children play safely.
Anyway, you can't have it all I suppose.
On a Saturday evening, in the late fifties I used to go to the dance hall. I believe it had a sprung maple floor. The Harry Pitch band provided the music. It's where I first saw the incomparable Matt Monroe, when he appeared as guest singer. The approach to the Town Hall as I remember it had flowerbeds, with the electricity company's office and showroom on one side and the gas company theirs on the other side. Oh, and by the way, the bar sold only soft drinks on a Saturday evening.(Heaven forfend that the hoi polloi should have access to alcohol:))
