Harringay online

Harringay, Haringey - So Good they Spelt it Twice!

Just had a look at the members map - wow! Members all acroos Europe, North and South America. Amazing. None in Antarctica - yet.

Are these people who lived in Harringay and kept up membership after moving abroad? Or are people from abroad joining? How widespread is the high regard HoL is held in?

Some of it's Harringay Diaspora (mostly long before HoL started), but more of them are people who've heard about us and are interested in the site rather than Harringay. For some reason, we've become pretty well known. Coverage on BBC TV, website, Guardian and some very well read publications/sites in US, France, NZ, South Africa etc all add to that. We're also bigged up by organisations like Royal Society for the Arts and the Young Foundation here and Public Agenda and others in the USA.

We recently had fun using Google translator to translate some reviews in Russian and Japanese.

As far as I'm concerned these visitors are welcome (especially the ex-Harringaeites), but we're still a community site for Harringay and thankfully, at last count, 90%+ are local members.

I am pleased most members are really local, it keeps us focused on local matters backed up by a good knowledge base. But nice to know teh good rep is so widespread. I am always singing HoL praises to peopel i know as a great example of a local community website serving its area and members well. My aunt who lives in Cheshunt has no such  facility - perhaps to many older residents to be able to set up such a thing?

what is the age range of HoL members? and the average age? any idea?

Classic bell curve peaking over 30-40.
Should we all update our profile pics to show ourselves with a cup of tea?
Ya boo sucks.
