Saw a black&white cat on the side of the road just now, in front of number 158 on West Green Road - seemed badly hurt:( Tried calling the council but it's after hours. Any ideas on what else to do? Poor thing:(((

Does it have a collar with possibly an owner's number?
Could you bring it inside in the warm wrapped in a towel for now?
Poor cat! Yes best to take cat inside. The council won't help. The cat will need to be taken to a vet.
Village Vet is open 24hours - Village Vet 0207 794 4948.

I think he's dead - he needs to be picked up. No collar on him:(
Oh dear. If he is definitely dead, it's helpful to any cat owner with a missing cat for the cat to be scanned at a vet (which is free of charge) to see if its microchipped so that owner can be contacted.
It sounds morbid, but a photo is helpful to record its markings in case it isn't microchipped.
Tomorrow you can arrange for the council refuse collectors Veolia to collect the dead body, but I don't know if they get them scanned for a microchip, (I know Islington Council Refuse Collection do get them scanned).
Hopefully it's not this missing local cat

If you keep a cat inside at night, it reduces the risk of them getting lost or injured by a car. If you have a microwave, get a Snugglesafe heat pad to make their bed warm and cosy at home. It's important to have a cat flap so that a cat can come and go freely during the day and then lock the cat flap at night so that the cat is safe inside at night. The cat will need a litter tray, but it's worth it. If you know anyone with a cat or dog, please advise them to get them microchipped and neutered.
Yes, having a warm place for them on winter evenings is great for enticing cats in, giving you the chance to close the cat flap at night. In the summer, what I do is split the evening feed, as my two love to roam at night/in the evenings in the summer - the lure of a little bedtime snack is enough to get them back in before bed.
