Harringay, Haringey - So Good they Spelt it Twice!

This evening (15th Jan) a female driver of a yellow mini nearly hit my daughter at around 7pm on the crossing opposite chestnuts park and woodlands park school, she ran through a red light and missed my daughter by inches. Luckily a 341 bus driver alerted my daughter and wife that she was coming, and probaly saved my 8 year olds life

I'm offering a substantial reward as to any information or details on the driver - please contact me through here

thanks

Hi Dom

That sounds awful, I do hope your daughter is ok. I haven't got any news around the car but I use the crossing regularly and, whilst I appreciate it was sited away from the park gates, I must admit yo feeling I take my life in my hands when I cross ( and I'm a lot older than 8!).

Well done the bus driver

It might have been recorded on the bus dash cam. Call the bus company asap and the police.

Good shout, definitely do this!

Thats a great idea

We're trying to find the bus driver to say thanks as well, also been looking round the area to spot the mini, can't be that many yellow minis in Haringey

How awful for you. A few of us were saying not long ago that an accident or near-miss of this type seemed inevitable at this crossing.

Sorry to hear about this. I started this thread recently about how dangerous the roads are around there: http://www.harringayonline.com/forum/topics/st-ann-s-road-dangerous...

that was the one!

Hi all,

Sounds like something needs to be sorted, i'll talk to Cal at the school as well, what's the normal process for getting this kind of thing sorted?

Apart from sticking big warning notices up on the crossing etc, etc and a little proactive activity

It's endemic, I'm afraid. My daughter and I were crossing Green Lanes on Monday evening and a van driver sailed through a red light without even slowing. He was in his own little world, only waking when I shouted at him.

Then you have the people who jump the lights. Not even "Amber gamblers,' but 2 or 3 seconds after they have turned red.

Enforcement would be good. Could we persuade the council to get their little white car to monitor some crossings in the borough?

Sorry to hear that, the little white cars might make a big difference, is there any way of creating a little lobbying action, I guess the first thing is working out what would be most effective.

Along those lines - the zebra crossing near the park is in the most arbitary place - right on a blind bend, really smart place

ANyone know how to start lobbying the council/police whoever we need, once again, might be petition time once worked out what needs to happen to make it safer

Hail to the bus driver, by the way!

Glad it was not more serious.
